3 Surefire Business Strategy

Term this strategy comes from Greece strategies (Stratos = military, and ag = lead), which has the sense of art or science of being a general.

This concept is very suitable in ancient times that is often the case of war, where the generals needed to lead to always win the war. In this case, strategy means a draft distribution and the use of military force in these areas to achieve specific objectives.

The concept was adapted for military strategy in the business world, for example, the concept of Sun Tzui, Hannibal, and Carl von Clausewitz. In the world of business strategy for drawing the business direction and follow the development as the guidance to optimize all owned by the company or organization.

Because every organization has the resources and limitations of the different goals of each organization has a different strategy. Although these organizations have the same objective but not necessarily owned resources was the same as does the opposite. As for the strategies used by the organization is facing the following situation (Jain, 1990):

  • Limited resources.
  • Uncertainty the Organization to compete.
  • Commitment to the resources cannot be modified lai.
  • The decisions must be coordinated between the part all the time.
  • There is uncertainty about the control of the initiative.

According to Stoner, the Freeman, and Gilbert, Jr. (1995), the concept of this strategy can be divided into two according to the different perspectives, namely (1) from the perspective of what will the organization wants to do, and (2) the perspective of what the organization is finally done.

According to the first perspective, the strategy can be defined as the program to obtain the goals of the Organization and also how to do or to obtain those goals.

In the strategy, it had the meaning that the Manager has the role of an active, conscious, rational and in formulating the strategy of the organization. This strategy is implemented in environments that are always changing and turbulent environment.

While the second perspective, the strategy defined the response or the response of the Organization to the environment all the time. Each organization must have strategies to achieve its objectives, although the strategy is never explicitly formulated.

This strategy is applied to managers who are reactive, i.e. only respond and adjust to the environment passively when needed.

The statement explicitly strategy is the key to success to deal with the changing business environment. The strategy provides a clear direction for every Member of the Organization to achieve the objectives of the organization. When the concept of strategy is not clear, then it will happen the ruckus between Member organizations.

And also the decision taken to decide the issue will only be subjective in nature or based solely on intuition and ignore the decision of the other. Whereas a strategy took carefully taking into account all the problems that will be faced to obtain the objectives of the organization.

According to Hayes and Wheelwright (1984 in Stoner, Freeman, and Gilbert, Jr. 1995) an enterprise level there are three strategies, namely:

1. Business strategies at Corporate Level

This strategy formulated by the highest management which regulates all activities and operations of the company that has a surface of more than one business unit. Because managers here will formulate all the basics from companies such as what business the company is supposed to do, and the goal for each of the target business units? How to optimize the resources or assets belonging to achieve company goals.

2. Business strategy at Business Unit Level

This strategy more geared to the management and operation of the particular business. This strategy is more appropriately used to determine how that will be used by a business against the target market and to run such a way to take advantage of owned assets in certain market conditions. Topics anyway are c

ARA's business will be competing, services or products that will be sold, target consumers, distribution resources.

3. Business strategies in Functional Level

This strategy is in the framework of the management functions (such as research and development, finance, production, operations, marketing, human resources, etc.) that can support the strategy of the business unit level. An example of when a level strategy business unit level has a new product that will be marketed, then the team of marketing will do promotions to market the new products to be sold.

This strategy is generally more detailed and also have a short period of time. The purpose of the development of this strategy was to communicate and determine actions to achieve short-term goals.
